Good morning everyone,
I am quite new here, and I am curious about selling our published pictures.
I have one, thus, a few questions: have you tried to sell your published photos here? How does it work?
Did you manage to have people buy them? Did you manage to have good deals?
Thanks a lot in advance!
Luca
Hi Luca!
I don't know what to tell you. I haven't sold anything at the moment (in a year).
I think it depends a lot on the kind of photographs you take. On 1X.com they sell prints, framed or not, whose main destination is to decorate the walls of homes, offices, etc., so I think that certain genres, such as landscapes, are more likely to sell.
Others may be able to give you more detailed answers.
Best regards
P.G.
Hi Luca,
I've been on here for 2 years, had 50 photos published and for sale on 1xondemand.com but not a single sale!
I do find it strange!

I am here for half a year, but it would really surprise me, if any of my published photos would ever be sold. I am not expecting to sell anything, neither here, nor elsewhere. Photographing is just one of my hobbies.
Around on 1x for more than a decade, shooting various genres, I can confirm sales works and it strongly depends on the genre.
Landscapes work, especially moody ones. Same counts for floral shots. Architecture (abstracts) sell on a smaller scale, but they do. Boudoir probably as well, but I don't have plenty in my portfolio. Wildlife does not work for me, there is strong competition, of course (@Sophie B) . Beauty / portraits rarely sell, you better shoot them as asignment if you want to earn from this genre.
For me, 37 out of 191 photos were sold 474 times as of today via 1x. About 20% make the revenue. At the end you will only sell what customers pay for. If you shoot a commission you know what they expect, otherwise it will remain a guess.
I would like to understand how the Fine Art site works from a buyer's perspective. For instance, how does a prospective buyer search for photos, aside from the broad categories of "landscape", for instance? There is a way to search using "keyword", but what is the connection between keyword and the data associated with a picture? Does the keyword search in the photo's description? title? tags? I'd like to understand this so I can provide the kind of data for my published photos that will improve their chances of coming up in a prospective buyer's search results.
Hi Joseph,
Unfortunately, the keywords and description we enter is not 1:1 reflected in all partner print shops. Here I had a closer look on fineartamerica and one example just today:
https://gallery.1x.com/forum/site-related/key-word-search-for-art-prints
So what ever you enter may be discarded / replaced. But there are plenty of print partners, maybe otheres adapt your choices.
So it remains a mystery to me how likely someone searching for a particular photo topic will come across my own photo. I think that one of the main reasons photos are posted on 1x.com is to sell them, and in my opinion photographers would greatly appreciate an understanding of how these pictures are marketed to the buying public.
You mention "partners". Are these partners separate from Fine Art America? Can you mention which some of them are?
Hi Joseph,
I never came across a list of partners. But you can google my name (it's quite unique WW) and go to "photos". Apart from Saatchi, all shops you will find my work in are partners of 1x. Some partners seem to sell via Amazon or Wallmart, indirectly so to say.
Regards,
Mike

I Totally agree with you
